The sun isn't going to be the only one SHiNING this summer!
Hi There! My name is Sydney and I’m about to embark on a pretty rad, yet kind of scary challenge to “DANCE MYSELF FIT.” That’s right dear friends (we are all going to be friends by the end of this, I’m just sure of it), I’m going to dance myself to self-confidence and self-love. I am going to dance myself to a healthy relationship with fitness. I am going to dance myself silly and share my journey with you.
How am I going to dance myself fit? Three simple words.
SHiNE. DANCE. FITNESS. SHiNE™ is a dance fitness class rooted in traditional dance such as jazz, hip hop, and ballet. So far, sounds great.
I have been asking the dance gods to help me find a workout class that fit the following checklist:
-Ease of Access
Well guess what, the dance gods listened, and I found SHiNE DANCE FITNESS.
PRICE: $10.99 a month!! Psh, I can totally do that. Gym memberships are like 3X that amount!! CHECK.
WOULD KEEP MY INTEREST: I have watched their YouTube videos and it seems like they are challenging enough to keep my interest, but easy enough that I won’t get frustrated and quit. CHECK!
WAS EASY TO ATTEND: SHiNE has local classes AND online classes. I am going to opt for the online class to hopefully (fingers crossed) show you that it is easy to stick to it and get results from your living room! CHECK.
WOULD GIVE ME AWESOME RESULTS: Well I haven’t offically started any videos yet, but just watching the YouTube videos made me tired, so I’m sure actually doing the dances will kick my boo-tay. CHECK!!!
I will tell you a little more about me so that you have an idea of where I’m starting from. You see… it all started when I was three years old… haha JUST KIDDING! Well kind of. It did start when I was three, but I’ll make this as painless and as short of a story as I can. From age three until age eighteen, I was a dancer. I danced competitively and was a cheerleader. Looking back now (I’m going to toot my own horn for a second), I was in good shape! But once I left for college, I didn’t focus on fitness anymore and couldn’t find any dance class that was interesting to me since I had danced competitively. So as I’m sure you can imagine, the Freshman 15 slowly became my reality. Sound familiar to anyone? *cue sad violin music*
Since my freshman year in college, my health and fitness journey has been all over the place. Some times I did great, sticking with a fitness regimen and eating healthy, other times, I could have cared less. I have come to realize that I’m an “all-or-nothing” person when it comes to eating healthy and working out. I either 100% commit with no room for a cookie or a day off from the gym, or I don’t do anything active and eat junk… lots and lots of junk.
At my current stage, I have about 45 lbs to lose to get to my ideal weight; I am 5’6” and 26 years old (YIKES)! I have never successfully stuck with a home-workout plan for more than a few weeks. I like, actually love, cookie dough. I haven’t worked out for more than 30 minutes in many, many years. My motivation to workout and eat healthy is almost non-existent. So, as you can tell, this is going to be an interesting journey! But I’m ready.
I don’t want to bore you on my first post, so I’ll cut it short. I hope you’ll follow me on this adventure I’m taking to Dance Myself Fit with SHiNE Dance Fitness. Please comment below with questions you have or topics you’d like me to cover during my journey!
LET’S DANCE OURSELVES SILLY!!
